Joey De leon is in Favor of martial law and sees nothing wrong
September 27, 2017Joey de Leon is one of the most renowned comedians and actors in the Philippine showbiz industry. Did you know that he had already survived two martial law regimes? Apparently, he sees nothing wrong about it and as a matter of fact, he is really confused as to why the Filipinos reacted violently when President Rodrigo Duterte declared the said law in Mindanao due to unending rebellion and violence in the area. The Eat Bulaga host stated:
“Eat Bulaga nga nakaka-7 Presidents at 2 Martial Law pero nandyan pa rin! Kami rin nitong si Ian Veneracion! So anong problema?”
The proclamation was recently signed by the President along with Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea. The said decree recounts several passages from the 1987 Constitution and the Revised Penal Code, modified by Republic Act No. 6968, which provides for the declaration of martial law by the nation’s chief executive.
Meanwhile, Section 18, Article VII of the Constitution states that the president can decline the privilege of the court order of habeas corpus or make the martial law run the country or any part of it, “in case of invasion or rebellion when the public safety requires it.”
To add on to that, Article 134 of the Revised Penal Code states the definition of rebellion or insurrection as “rising and taking arms against the government.”
The martial law was declared in Mindanao because of the Maute group’s attack in the city of Marawi. It will only last for 60 days. The proclamation said:
